Keurig doesn't like his nails trimmed, so we spent some time practicing the desensitization process. His owner also told me she now enjoys walking Keurig because he no longer pulls on the leash!

Baxter had a full night learning Wait, Leave It, and Stay. He picked up Wait extremely quickly, waiting for both his food bowl and to go in and out of doors. He also did very well with Leave It as we drop food around him. Stay was a little more difficult as he became tired and less focused, but he will get there with practice. “And it is exceedingly short, his galloping life. Dogs die so soon. I have my stories of that grief, no doubt many of you do also. It is almost a failure of will, a failure of love, to let them grow old - or so it feels. We would do anything to keep them with us, and to keep them young. The one gift we cannot give.” - Mary Oliver, Dog SongsMa Tucker, a high energy 6-month old Labradoodle, needs some reinforcement of his basic obedience. His owners are experienced dog people and have already done a good job with him. Today we played some recall games to help strengthen is Come When Called. Tucker is also a bit of a counter surfer so we taught him the Off cue as well. Maslow's lesson tonight was Leash Walking. We started out with Healing, then moved on to Loose Leash Walking and he did very well with both. Maslow does have a tendency to shut down midway through the walk, though. When we got to a certain property, one with four dogs, he did get very focused on the yard (even thought the dogs were inside) and refused to walk. We created some distance by moving to the other side of the street, and by doing so he was able to refocus and continue on the walk. |
