Pupdate - Allen
Before training: Allen gets very excited to walk, running out to the end of the leash once you move forward. His owners have had to alter their walks because he is hard to handle.
By using a high rate of reinforcement we taught him it was good to pay attention to us. The value of the reinforcer mattered, too. The turkey and peanut butter I was using worked great, but the Cheerios that his owners were using were not worth working for to Allen. So remember, the rate and the value of the reward are important, especially in a distracting environment.
After training: "I'm shocked. We've never walked like this. Ever."
Pupdate - Tucker
Tonight we taught Tucker how to Down. We took our time, as these puppy push-ups can be
tiring. Our patience paid off and he is now lying down like a champ! We also taught him to Wait patiently for his food.
