Sammy, a 2-year old Labrador Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix, is very fearful of strange men. I spent our session trying to gain his trust, as that is needed before we can begin a desensitization and counter-conditioning program.
Miki finished her basic obedience training with Come When Called. We played recall games such as Puppy Ping Pong and Hide and Seek to use her excitement and energy to our advantage. Miki has done well in every phase of her training.
Met with Tucker and his family tonight. Tucker is a 1.5 year old Maltese/Poodle mix who gets excited when guests come over, so we instituted the Sit For Everything rule to curb his jumping. But his big issue is he reacts to any kind of animal he sees on TV! In the coming weeks we will be working on desensitizing and counter-conditioning this odd behavior.
Bodhi, a 9-month old Pit Bull/Boxer mix, is a very energetic and smart dog. He already knows many commands so we are going to be working on the finer points, as well as teaching him impulse control.
After almost a month we met with Rocky again. Reports are he is doing better when he meets people, and his anxious barking has diminished. Tonight we worked on Leave It, something that will be used a lot when the baby comes!
Although she is a Miniature Poodle and just weighs a few pounds, Miki is quite the puller on walks. Today we showed her that when she pulls she doesn't get to where she wants to go. She did very well in just a short time.
The first week we worked with Boss he growled, barked, and lunged at me almost the entire time because of his fear issues. The second session was better and by the end of the night he was taking food from my hand. Tonight, Boss was eating out of my hand soon after I arrived and eventually I was able to sit next to him and pet him!
Today we worked with Miki and her impulse control. We taught her Leave It, which she did very well at, and Wait. She did well with Wait when using her food bowl, but still needs work at the door. We also worked on Stay. With practice Miki will do well.
